Pedestrian killed by train
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A woman was killed when a train hit her near Tampa.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports that two women were walking along a train track in Dover Monday afternoon when a train began to approach from behind at about 60 mph. The train conductor told deputies he began sounding the horn when he noticed the women on the track.
The surviving woman told authorities that her companion, 47-year-old Deborah Sweat, didn’t hear the horn until it was too late. She said she tried to grab Sweat and pull her too safety but was unsuccessful.
Sweat died at the scene.
