Ex-sheriff asks court to restore state pension
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Former Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne wants a court to restore his state pension that a judge said he forfeited when he broke the law.
Jenne’s lawyer will be in court Tuesday to ask an appeals court to award Jenne the pension. Jenne served 10 months in prison for mail fraud and tax convictions stemming from a corruption investigation.
Earlier this month, a judge rejected Jenne’s attempt to keep the $134,500 yearly pension. Administrative Law Judge J.D. Parrish wrote that it would “defy logic” to allow Jenne to reap the benefits of the state’s retirement system after breaking the law.
Jenne argued that his crimes did not rise to a level that warranted the denial.
Jenne served as a prosecutor and state senator before becoming Broward sheriff.
