All of those injured are Crestview residents.
Jayden Carnes was a passenger in a 1987 Chevrolet Caprice driven by James Carnes that pulled into the path of a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Jayden Carnes and Chasen Carnes, 5, were flown to Sacred Heart Hospital following the 12:10 p.m. accident, with injuries listed as critical. Chasen Carnes condition had been upgraded to good as of Monday morning.
A third child in the Caprice, Austin Carnes, suffered minor injuries.
Two of the three occupants in the Colorado were also injured. Kristina Brazen, 29, was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center with serious injuries. Paige Morgan, 6, was treated for minor injuries at North Okaloosa Medical Center. The third occupant, Adam D. Morgan, 29, was not injured.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, the Colorado was southbound on S.R. 85 with Brazen at the wheel, and James Carnes was driving the Caprice in a northbound lane of S.R. 85.
James Carnes attempted to take a left onto Lake Silver Road and pulled into the path of the pickup truck, the report states.
Brazen “was unable to react in time,” the report states.
Two medical helicopters landed in the parking lot of Victorious Life Church to transport the injured children.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut the back door away from the Caprice in order to reach the children.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of traffic on S.R. 85 were closed while emergency crews worked the traffic crash.
Firefighters with the North Okaloosa Fire District responded to the scene, along with members of the Florida Highway Patrol, Okaloosa EMS and the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
All occupants in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts, according to the report. James Carnes is undergoing tests to determine if alcohol or chemicals were a factor in the accident, the report states.
The wreck caused $10,000 in damage to the Colorado and $1,000 in damage to the Caprice, troopers reported.
