James Clifford Roberts, Jr.

Suspect in Crestview armed robbery arrested

A Crestview man accused of attempting to rob a local convenience store Tuesday morning while reportedly armed with a knife was arrested Wednesday.

James Clifford Roberts Jr., 28, of the 500 block of East Brock Avenue, is charged with attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Roberts is in custody at the Okaloosa County Jail. No bond amount has been set.

Members of the Crestview Police Department released store video surveillance footage Tuesday following the 6:10 a.m. robbery of the Exxon Station, located at the intersection of Ferdon Boulevard and South Main Street.

The footage depicts a man police say was Roberts brandishing a knife at the store clerk, while demanding money.

A woman who appeared to be with the man at the time of the robbery has also been identified, police said, but is “no longer of interest” and has not been charged, according to a police report.

The clerk was unable to open the cashier drawer and the suspect fled on foot without getting any money, police reported.
