Fire destroys home on Monterrey Road (with photos)

A two-story home located at 5454 Monterrey Road in the Heritage Hills subdivision was destroyed by fire Wednesday night. The structure was reported to have smoke and flames showing when local fire departments were dispatched to the scene at 10 p.m.

Karen and Kerry Goettl were leaving a friends house on Monterrey Road, when they spotted the fire and called 911.

“We saw flames on the bottom floor, it was an orange glow and looked like Halloween decorations at first,” Kerry Goettl said. “I banged on all the doors and windows to see if anyone was home.”

There was no one home at the time of the fire and other neighbors stated that the residents were in the process of moving.

A recreational vehicle parked inside a carport attached to the home did not appear to be damaged.

The Crestview, North Okaloosa and Dorcas fire departments responded to the call. An investigator from the state fire marshals office was called to the scene.
