MCDC receives donation from Regions
Group provides several programs for the community
The Macedonia Community Development Corporation recently received several computers and a $1,000 grant from Regions Bank. The grant will be used for general operating costs for the faith-based non-profit community development organization.
Shirley Sessions, Regions Vice President for Community Affairs, and Rich Trent, Assistant Vice President of Regions’ Crestview office, made the presentation to MCDC members at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
“We applaud the work of the Macedonia Community Development Corporation,” said Sessions. “This community has been good to Regions, and we make sure we give back in ways that are beneficial.”
The MCDC provides hot meals for senior citizens on the third Wednesday of each month at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church on Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue. Speakers at the luncheons talk about health, insurance and other related topics. Hot meals also are provided to home-bound seniors.
The organization’s Wednesday night youth program at Macedonia focuses on character development and tutoring students. There are several educators within the church that work with students and the computer labs, according to MCDC Director Donald Jernigan.
“The community development corporation is a mission and a ministry. It needs to be done in our community,” said Jernigan.
There is also a disaster emergency assistance team in the corporation that is Red Cross-certified and trained to take an active part in local community response during a disaster.
“We appreciate this very kind donation from Regions to MCDC,” said Rev. Dwight Baggett, MCDC President. “Regions has a long standing reputation for its corporate philanthropy and commitment to the communities it serves.”
