Former police official in critical condition following traffic incident

Police tape surrounds the scene of a traffic incident, which occurred earlier today at the Tom Thumb gas station on South Ferdon Boulevard. The incident has left one Crestview resident in critical condition.

CRESTVIEW — Former Crestview Police official Marvin Bass Jr. 66, is currently in critical condition following a traffic incident, which occurred earlier today.

 Bass suffered injuries after being struck by vehicle  driven Crestview resident Janet Coward, a press release from the Crestview Police Department stated.

Bass was standing near a fuel pump at the Tom Thumb gas station, located on 1098 South Ferdon Boulevard, when Coward's vehicle struck the pump near Bass.

The impact first pinned Bass between the pump his vehicle, then tossing him to the ground under the rear of his vehicle, according to witnesses at the scene.

The release stated that the collision caused the fuel pump to burst into flames. Bystanders immediately came to his rescue removing him from the flames and away from his vehicle.

Bass was then transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, after first responders including the Crestview Fire Department and the CPD arrived on scene.   

Officers with the CPD are currently investigating how the incident occurred.
