CRESTVIEW — After receiving several calls from local businesses, the Crestview Police Department warns local businesses to check incoming currency for counterfeit bills.

On Thursday, officer Sam Kimmons said the department received six calls from different business people, who said they had been paid in multiple counterfeit $20 and $50 bills. The department is currently investigating each call, he said.

Kimmons encourages local businesses to be on the lookout for counterfeit bills and to contact the department at 682-2055 if counterfeit money is identified.

Assistant Police Chief Rick Brown said the department has received similar calls involving counterfeit currency in the past few days.

“We are asking for the public’s help,” he said.
