Thunderstorm floods area roads

A severe thunderstorm that rolled through Okaloosa County early Wednesday morning flooded Crestview roads and contributed to a couple of minor wrecks.

Crestview was under a tornado warning up until shortly before 8 a.m. but reports of a funnel touchdown could not be confirmed by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, according to dispatchers.

Minor flooding on U.S. 90 and State Road 85 slowed down traffic. More significant flooding was reported in some areas, such as portions of Antioch Road, which was under water and had to be closed. Flooding was also reported on Chestnut Avenue and Henderson Street.

About 7:30 a.m., Crestview Police were working a minor wreck at the Tom Thumb store at State Road 85 and P.J. Adams Parkway. Other minor wrecks were attributed to poor driving conditions caused by the rain.

The rain is expected to clear up by early afternoon today and will be followed by a cold front expected to drop temperatures by about 20 degrees.
