Mayor home, antsy to get back to work
Crestview Mayor David Cadle was released from Fort Walton Beach Medical Center Tuesday afternoon after having suffered a mild heart attack Sunday morning.
“He’s at home recuperating,” confirmed the mayor’s assistant Phyllis Conrad. “It takes a lot longer to get out of the hospital than to go in.”
“He’s doing very well,” said Shirley Cadle, wife of the mayor. “We were real fortunate. Now he’s needing things to do.”
“I’m getting better every day,” Mayor Cadle said. “I think they sent me home so I’d quit entertaining so much. They told me I couldn’t conduct city business in the hospital.”
Cadle confessed he did have a brief meeting or two with Conrad and Police Chief Brian Mitchell in his hospital room. “You know, things have to be taken care of,” Cadle said.
“I’m being really good now and trying hard about following doctor’s orders and taking it easy,” the mayor promised.
Cadle expressed his thanks for the outpouring of support and get-well wishes he has received.
“I’ve just been overwhelmed by the cards and letters and visits and especially prayers. I feel I especially had a lot of them,” Cadle said. “I’m just thankful for the grace of God.”
Cadle said he promised his doctor he would rest throughout the rest of the week, although he feels so strongly about one upcoming event that he plans to attend it.
“I will be at the Healing Field opening ceremony Saturday morning,” Mayor Cadle said, referring to the Crestview Exchange Club’s display of more than 200 American flags that will rise Friday across from the Gulf Power office on S.R. 85. “I don’t want to miss that.”
