Scouts visit chamber committee
Local Boy Scouts learned more about governmental issues Tuesday morning, and a local governmental issues committee learned more about local Boy Scouts.
Area Boy Scouts of America Unit Commander Rae Schwartz spoke about the organization during the Crestview Area Chamber of Commerce Governmental Issues Committee meeting.
Schwartz serves as unit commander for 10 local troops. A typical unit commander works with three troops.
“I wouldn’t trade any of them,” she said. “I’ve got the best job in Boy Scouts.”
Five Boy Scouts and one Cub Scout in attendance led the group in the Pledge of allegiance. Several of them fulfilled government merit badge requirements while at the chamber.
Schwartz outlined the things youths are expected to learn about government as they rise through the ranks of Boy Scouts.
She pointed out the emphasis placed on “citizenship” at all levels of scouting.
“When we think about scouts in government, we’re really thinking about citizenship,” she said
