The Crestview Police Department has charged a 23-year-old Oklahoma man with grand theft automobile and resisting arrest without violence.

Shortly after 9 a.m. today, the Crestview Police Department attempted to stop a suspected stolen vehicle that had been taken from an address on Bowers Avenue in Crestview.

When officers attempted to make contact with the suspect driver in the parking lot of the Mobil Gas Station, 3200 S. Ferdon Blvd., he fled on foot.

The suspect, Payton Seth Brewer, of McAlester, Okla.,  fled into a wooded area near Lowes, where he hid for more than an hour, police said. The Crestview Police Department contacted the Okaloosa Corrections Institute, which assisted by using their tracking dogs, and tracked the suspect, who was quickly detained.

Brewer refused to cooperate with law enforcement and was transported and released into the custody of the Okaloosa County Jail, police said.
