UPDATE: Aphrey Benjamin Collis, 38, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, according to Crestview Police Chief Tony Taylor.
CRESTVIEW — Lawmen closed a portion of North Savage Street Friday morning so the Florida Department of Law Enforcement could investigate a Thursday night shooting.
Crestview Police Officers Beau Baier and Shane Kriser, with the CPD's Special Weapons and Tactics Team, attempted to execute a search warrant at 462 N. Savage St. around 10:45 p.m., but they were met with gunfire after attempting to enter the dwelling, according to police.
The two officers exchanged gunfire and one suspect was killed. Baier and Kriser were treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds to the legs at North Okaloosa Medical Center.
Police closed the area between West Beech Avenue and West pine Avenue for investigation. Crestview Police Lt. Andrew Schneider has stated more than one suspect is involved in the shooting.
