Woman charged with dragging, critically injuring husband

CRESTVIEW -- A Crestview woman has been charged with aggravated battery after dragging her husband down the street at a high rate of speed while he was trying to hang on to the truck she was driving.

Cindy Alice McDonald was arrested Nov. 6 for the incident, which happened Oct. 19.

Her husband, Greg McDonald, was critically injured. He was initially taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center and then transferred by helicoper to Sacred Heart Hospital, according to her arrest report.

The incident surfaced after a man went to the Crestview Police Departmend on Oct. 19 and told them he had loaned Cindy McDonald his truck. Later, he learned she had possibly tried to run over her husband with it, he said.

A witness told police that he and the McDonalds had been driving around, hoping to purchase illegal narcotics. At one point, she got out of the truck and her husband got out to try and get her back inside, the witness said.

She then got back in the truck and accelerated, leaving her husband behind. After the witness asked her to go back and get him, she returned and stopped about a block away from where her husband was standing.

The witness got out and the two men walked back toward the truck. Greg McDonald reached it first and grabbed the driver's door, at which point his wife accelerated at a high speed, according to the report. He was ejected from the vehicle.

Cindy McDonald, who is 32, is due to appear in court Dec. 16.
