Two motorcyclists injured in Walton County wreck

WALTON COUNTY -- Two motorcyclists traveling east on U.S. Highway 98 Saturday afternoon were injured when one of them changed lanes at the same time as the driver of a Honda Accord. The accident happened at about 3 p.m.

Kennadah Gilbert Kelley, a 53-year-old from Lawrenceville, Ga., was on the motorcycle that changed lanes. Kelley had to take evasive action when the driver of the Accord put on her brakes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.

Kelley lost control of her 2004 Harley Davidson, which overturned and slid for more than 300 feet. During the slide, Kelley was ejected and came to rest on the southern shoulder face down. She was seriously injured and taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Roger David Williams, a 60-year-old from Griffin, Ga., saw Kelley get ejected and tried to stop to help her. He had been riding in the same lane as her prior to the accident. She had just changed lanes to pass a truck that was ahead of them.

Williams applied the front brake on his 2007 Harley Davidson and was also ejected, receiving minor injuries.

The driver of the Honda Accord, Jane Adams Gordon, a 67-year-old Mobile woman, said she looked in her rearview mirror and saw that the driver of the first motorcycle was "in distress," so she pulled over.

Though witnesses said Gordon's car and Kelley's motorcycle collided, Williams said that wasn't true. There was no physical evidence of a collision, according to the Florida Highway Patrol press release.

The motorcyclists were not wearing helmets, the report said. It did not indicate whether charges were pending.

Adams was wearing a seatbelt.
