“If we use it for alternative purposes, we will be obligated to refund BP,” Stewart said.

If the furniture is sold, the money would have to be used in accordance with the BP grant’s purpose.

Stewart also briefed the board on efforts to recover several of Bellinger’s unauthorized purchases. They include:

  • A 40-foot Marquis yacht purchased with $710,000 in bed tax revenue. The vessel is for sale by the county for $519,000.
  • A $25,000 payment to the American Wind Symphony, a Pennsylvania-based orchestra, for a concert that never took place. The county plans to file a lawsuit to recover the bed tax money paid to the musical group.
  • Two customized Bourget motorcycles for $118,100 in bed tax money. The county is seeking a refund, but if that’s not possible it will try to take possession of the motorcycles, which are at the manufacturer’s plant in Arizona.
