Property tax bills arriving soon
FORT WALTON BEACH – Okaloosa County Tax Collector Ben Anderson announced that tax bills have been mailed and that property taxes will be collected now through March 31, 2012. Anderson said, “Our office mailed the 2011 property tax notices on Nov. 1, so property owners can expect their notices to arrive soon if not already.”
Anderson said the office cent out 121,577 bills representing $199,497,483.30.
“Citizens can use our fast payment system to process property tax payments online at in collections,” he added.
That total is down approximately $6 million from 2010 and $28 million from 2009. The values are based on assessments as of Jan. 1, 2011.
There are discounts for early payoffs. All taxes are due on or before March 31, 2012, and will be subject to additional fees after that date.
Discounts for early payment are allowable at 4 percent in November; 3 percent in December; 2 percent in January, and 1 percent in February.
The postmark date determines the amount of discount. Please note that there are no discounts allowable for the month of March. Taxes become delinquent on April 1.

Customers have direct access to services at the site and can pay current and delinquent real estate and tangible taxes, purchase hunting and fishing licenses, and perform motor vehicle and vessel DSHMV transactions.
Payment for most Internet transactions can be made with MasterCard, VISA, Discover, or American Express charge cards. Customers are reminded that a credit card transaction fee from the credit card company will be applied. Also note that some credit card companies may treat the transaction as a “cash advance” and that interest charges may be incurred from the date of the transaction.
