Record amount collected in food drive

The United Way of Okaloosa and Walton Counties thanks local residents who donated during the Letter Carriers National Food Drive May 9.

A total of 148,749 pounds of food was collected locally and distributed to 26 community food banks and pantries.

Americans generated a record total of 73.4 million pounds of non-perishable food from more than 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states.

Letter carriers in Baker, Crestview, Holt, Laurel Hill and Eglin AFB are thanked for picking up the food left at mailboxes. The many food drive volunteers also are thanked for their support.
