Feds bust 2 counterfeiting rings for fake bills
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Federal authorities have recently broken up two counterfeiting rings in central Florida that were passing along fake money.
An indictment says bleach and a fancy printer were used to turn $5 bill into bogus $100 bills. The fake money was sold to Juan Castro, who is charged with selling the bills for $21 each to a supplier.
Castro told the U.S. Secret Service the counterfeit currency came from Colombians.
Orlando’s links to Colombian counterfeiters date back more than a decade and includes one of the Florida’s largest confiscations of counterfeit cash.
A second ring was broken up in January. Two cashiers at an Osceola County store were arrested as accomplices to a group passing counterfeit currency.
