Six-vehicle accident on East Redstone

A Chevrolet HHR sport utility vehicle apparently hydroplaned on rain-slicked pavement while turning east onto East Redstone Avenue from northbound State Road 85 around 2:35 Thursday afternoon.

The Chevy became wedged between an older Chevrolet pick-up waiting to turn north on S.R. 85 and a red Toyota Tercel waiting in the left turn lane to turn south. It sideswiped a Mercury sedan in front of the Tercel. The impact pushed the Tercel back into a Jeep Cherokee behind it. A Dodge Dakota behind the Jeep in turn hit the back of the Jeep.

Area emergency response teams including the Crestview Police Department, Okaloosa County EMS and the Crestview Fire Department responded to the scene. An early report said smoke was coming from one of the vehicles, but no fire resulted. Air bags were reported deployed in some of the vehicles.

Two people, one from the Chevrolet HHR and one from the Toyota, were taken up the street to the North Okaloosa Medical Center by Okaloosa EMS.
