Hotel clerk accused of credit card fraud

A former desk clerk at Super 8 Motel in Crestview has been charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and grand theft after allegedly using guests' credit cards to make payments for rooms when those guests already had paid for their rooms in cash.

The Crestview Police Department was called to the motel June 13 three days after a guest informed the hotel he had been charged for an extra room on his credit card. He was charged for a room that already had been paid for with cash.

The suspect was terminated when she reported for work that day, according to the CPD report.

A total of six customers would make similar complaints to the hotel. A total of $770.62 was refunded to customers. Motel records show the suspect was the desk clerk each time credit cards were misused.

The suspect was arrested Aug. 13 and has a Sept. 16 court date.

blah, blah, blah. She knew exactly what she was doing. The article said when guests paid in cash. The Hotel still requires a credit card in case of damages, phone bills or whatever. She pocketed the cash and applied charges to the credit cards. Now why she thought she could get away it is stupidity on her part.

Sounds more like incompetence rather than malicious intent. Many hotels require a credit card in order to put a "hold" on the card in case of damages, as a sort of deposit. It sounds more like this employee either did not know how to use the credit card machine, or neglected to remove the charge/deposit off the cards. I see no reason for an employee, who has no vested interest in the business other than a paycheck, would go to these lengths to commit credit card fraud and steal from these customers on behalf of her employer. This is why it is scary to work in our country. Even if you really did do something and it was an honest mistake, you will most likely be charged, jailed, and marked for life. Making it difficult to find employment again due to the criminal background. It is more likely that management is responsible for this either due to inadequate training or purposely allowing the charging of the cards, perhaps in hopes of them slipping through and padding reservations in order to ensure he not only looks good but that he receives his yearly bonus. When they were "busted" it was turned into a blame game, passing the blame onto a defenseless employee. Let this be a lesson to the working class, do not upset your corporate masters, as they will ensure that you suffer the harshest of punishments if you cross them.
