Topic: News Bulletin Reporter Brian Hughes praises local eateries in a July 1 column.
Loved your column praising Crestview’s restaurants. You are so right. This place has some awesome eateries. I don’t care for chain places at all because it is all the same and so predictable. Give me Song’s, Bamboo, The Wild Olive, Nellie’s or any of the other wonderful choices any day of the week.
Topic: Crestview Police Department announces July 4 crackdown on drunken drivers
I am glad CPD is cracking down on this. I want everyone to have a safe Fourth of July. Please don’t drink and drive, and everyone wear seatbelts.

We’re considering a story and possibly a series on the worst roads in north Okaloosa County.
There’s certainly no shortage of material.
What do you think are the worst roads in north Okaloosa County? Why do you pick those roads? Can anything be done to fix them?
If you live on one of these roads and wouldn’t mind being contacted for a story, e-mail the News Bulletin at kylew@crestviewbulletin.com

Antioch Road is one of the worst roads in North Okaloosa County. Part of the road was repaved up to Juniper Creek but there is still a stretch of road filled with pot holes. I know that the Shoal River floods these roads out but there has to be a way to get these resolved.
Help!!!

Blake Dean, a 2006 Crestview High School graduate, recently joined a very exclusive club when he was part of LSU’s NCAA champion baseball team.
Could Dean become the most successful athlete ever to come out of north Okaloosa County? He’s got a while to go before he can make that claim. My vote — for now — is with Tom Hammonds, a professional athlete in both basketball and auto racing.
Tell us who you think is the greatest athlete to come out of north Okaloosa County.

I agree, Tom Hammonds has been one of the greatest athletes to come from Northwest Florida. I’d also have to add Danny Wuerffel to the list. Both Tom and Danny have more than athletic ability. Both are outstanding human beings as well.

When talking about the greatest athletes to come out of North Okaloosa County the discussion should start and end with Houston McTear.
In all fairness to Tom Hammonds, who had perhaps the most noteworthy professional career in the NBA or John Bale, who has done well for several years in professional baseball, they did it over the long haul.
Time will tell whether Blake Dean enjoys the success in Major League Baseball as Bale, or if Brad Reese will mirror the success of Hammonds.
If you look at raw athletic talent there is nobody close to McTear. Granted, Houston didn’t live up to his high school success, but what he accomplished, four state championships each in the 100-yard and 220-yard dashes would enough to put him in the mix. In my opinion, being co-world record holder in the 100 with a time of nine flat makes McTear the greatest to come out of these parts.
