CRESTVIEW — Gordon Martial Arts stayed busy, both here and abroad, in 2013.
●Hosting the international Korean Martial Arts Festival and the regionally attended Northwest Florida Spring Championship
●Sharing skills overseas. Owner Thomas Gordon and GMA instructor Greg Bledsoe gave seminars during the National Korean Martial Arts Association's 40th anniversary celebration in Canada. NKMAA officials named Bledsoe 2013's "Master of the Year." Gordon also traveled to Scotland, England and Holland, teaching maneuvers and tactics to several martial arts students.
●Offering free anti-bullying and women's self-defense classes locally
The school will cap the year on Friday with a 10th anniversary celebration. Any resident interested in learning taekwondo or hapkido skills can attend.
"If they are interested in taking martial arts classes, I will give them a great Christmas deal," Gordon said.
The event will also feature students earning another colored belt, which is how Gordon gradually learned his passion.
"I wanted to earn the next belt, then I wanted to teach martial arts, (and) then I wanted to open my own (martial arts) school," he said.
That experience and skill, over the years, have led to him being featured on the cover of the internationally distributed, bi-monthly "TaeKwonDo Times" magazine five times.
Gordon, who has written numerous articles for the periodical, will appear beside Ultimate Fighting Championship hall of famer Dan "The Beast" Severn on next month's cover.
