Robbery suspect arrested (UPDATED with identity of suspect)
Suspect apprehended after chase through nearby woods
Brandon G. Mobley, 23, of Crestview has been arrested and charged with the armed robbery of a Crestview bank.
The robbery took place at about 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Vanguard Bank at 2150 Ferdon Blvd.
Mobley was apprehended in a wooded area off of Shoffner Avenue near Aplin Road abut 45 minutes after the robbery.
Witnesses reported the suspect was carrying a gun. From the description of the weapon witnesses in the bank gave a Crestview Police investigator, "It looked like a Glock," he said. "
No one was injured, according to witnesses. An undisclosed amount of money was taken
"The guy was dressed all in black and carrying an umbrella," witness Morgan Capewell said. "I saw him running around the corner and I said, 'uh-oh, what's this guy doing?' Then I saw him come running out and I said, I think the bank just got robbed."
Local law enforcement officers trailed the suspect's pickup truck to a wooded area just off Shoffner Avenue, where the white male suspect fled the vehicle and entered the woods.
Officers from the Crestview Police Department and the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department persued the robbery suspect into the woods and apprehended him a short time later. He emerged shirtless and covered in mud, having discarded the hooded sweatshirt he had allegedly worn during the robbery.
"This is a fine example of the police department and the sheriff's department working together," said Crestview Police Chief Brian Mitchell.
Mobley is being held at the Okaloosa County Jail.
