Celebrated film and TV star Ed Asner will appear at Northwest Florida State College in the one-man drama "FDR."

Ed Asner as ‘FDR’

FEB. 6 • Veteran stage and screen actor Ed Asner will perform the solo performance drama “FDR” at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville at 7:30 p.m. “FDR” is based upon Dore Schary’s Broadway hit “Sunrise at Campobello” and explores the life of one of America’s best-loved presidents and the events and decisions that shaped a nation. This powerful play follows the iconic president as he reflects on his years in office, from inauguration to the trials of World War II.

 Asner is the recipient of seven Emmy Awards (“Mary Tyler Moore Show”, “Lou Grant”) and 16 nominations, five Golden Globe Awards, and is a member of the TV Academy Hall of Fame. Recently he was the voice of “Carl Fredricksen” in Disney Pixar’s animated movie “Up.”

Fashion show

FEB. 13 • GFWC Woman’s Club of Crestview will present “Look Smart, Dress from the Heart,” its annual fashion show featuring stylish fashions presented by the Red Raspberry and Donna Howard. In addition to the fashions, there will be a delicious luncheon and door prizes. The fun and fashion begin at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 898 Texas Parkway. Le Grand Cirque

FEB. 17 • A limited number of additional seats have been added for the previously sold out national tour of Le Grand Cirque at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center.  The 75 tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis for $45 each from the Mattie Kelly Arts Center box office in-person, by phone at (850) 729-6000, or online at www.mattiekellyartscenter.org.

Le Grand Cirque is a breathtaking show that redefines the boundaries of the circus through amazing artistry, and world-class performances. The show features an international line-up of some of the world’s finest acrobats, jugglers, and gymnasts in an enchanting and mesmerizing spectacle of entertainment firmly routed in the timeless circus traditions of Russia, China, and Eastern Europe. The high energy performances and fun-filled atmosphere result in a fast-paced, heart-pounding spectacle that will astound and keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

 

‘Death by Candygram’

FEB 18 • Act4Murder’s newest original comedy murder-mystery dinner theatre production will be presented at Bogey’s Bar and Restaurant in the historic Hotel DeFuniak in DeFuniak Springs at 6 p.m. Tickets include dinner and the interactive, audience-participation show. Okaloosa Chamber Singers concert

FEB. 19 & 20 • Okaloosa Chamber Singers with Dr. Marilyn Overturf, director, and accompanists Michelle Tredway and Kevin Shular, celebrate its 12th season with featured guest artist harpist Katie Ott-Demeester, who with Dr, David Ott, organist, will perform a setting of “Our Father” by Leos Janacek. James Jordan is the featured tenor soloist. Ott-Demeester will accompany the Chamber Singers on several additional works, and perform two harp solos as well.

Performances are Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Ft. Walton Beach, and Saturday, Feb. 20, 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Niceville.

Admission to OCS concerts is free with a suggested donation of $15 or $25 for two. For further information call 682-9651.
