‘Death by Candygram’

FEB 18 • Act4Murder’s newest original comedy murder-mystery dinner theatre production will be presented at Bogey’s Bar and Restaurant in the historic Hotel DeFuniak in DeFuniak Springs at 6 p.m. Tickets include dinner and the interactive, audience-participation show. Chautauqua art show

FEB. 18-20 • The 2010 Florida Chautauqua Assembly, Inc., celebrating its 125th year, will feature a three-day Art Show and Sale featuring regional and local artists who will display works in a variety of mediums, styles and price points. The Art Show and Sale will be held at the DeFuniak Springs Civic Center at 361 N. 10th St. Show hours commence with a gala opening on Thursday, Feb. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., and continue Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission charge. Okaloosa Chamber Singers concert

FEB. 19 & 20 • Okaloosa Chamber Singers with Dr. Marilyn Overturf, director, and accompanists Michelle Tredway and Kevin Shular, celebrate its 12th season with featured guest artist harpist Katie Ott-Demeester, who with Dr, David Ott, organist, will perform a setting of “Our Father” by Leos Janacek. James Jordan is the featured tenor soloist. Ott-Demeester will accompany the Chamber Singers on several additional works, and perform two harp solos as well.

Performances are Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Ft. Walton Beach, and Saturday, Feb. 20, 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Niceville.

Admission to OCS concerts is free with a suggested donation of $15 or $25 for two. For further information call 682-9651.

 

NWFSO concert for fifth graders

FEB. 19 • The Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, the region’s premiere professional orchestra, presents their annual concert for all fifth grade students in Okaloosa and Walton counties. Sponsored in partnership with the Northwest Florida Symphony Guild, the concert is part of the NFSO’s extensive educational outreach efforts for area youth. $6 student and chaperone tickets; limited seating for others may be available for $6 each. Stars of Tomorrow concert

FEB. 19 • The Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra will perform the “Stars of Tomorrow” family concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the Niceville campus of Northwest Florida State College. The features the top winners of the prestigious 23rd annual Concerto Competition as guest artists as well as special guest soloist Chester Schmitz performing “Tubby the Tuba,” George Kleinsinger’s delightful work for tuba, narrator and orchestra. The narrator will be John Leatherwood, founding director of the NFSO.

The concert also features Rossini’s “William Tell Overture” as well as a selection performed by the Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra under the direction of Liz Aylor. The NFSO will also be joined by the Niceville Singers of Niceville High School performing George Fredric Handel’s exciting “Coronation Anthem,” “Let thy Hand be Strengthened.” The second half of the concert features the two winners of the NFSO’s regional Concerto Competition.

Tickets are available from the Mattie Kelly Arts Center box office for $22.50 each for adults and $16 each for youth age 18 or younger. Tickets are available in person, by phone at (850) 729-6000 or online at www.mattiekellyartscenter.org or the symphony Web site at www.nfsymphony.org. Active duty military with ID may buy up to four tickets at the door for $16 per ticket.

Tickets are also available at the door starting at 6 p.m. on the night of the concert. Currently enrolled NWF State College students may receive one complimentary ticket per valid student ID, in person from the box office only.

 

Barrage: ‘Animato’

FEB. 20 • The Emerald Coast Concert Association proudly presents the Canadian group Barrage’s stunning “Animado” show on Saturday, Feb. 20. This high-octane fiddle fest features an international, multi-talented cast of eight performing an eclectic mix of music, song, and dance. In an electrifying tribute to the versatility of the violin, Barrage’s virtuoso performers offer a diverse fusion of musical styles with incredible energy.

Think of it as “Stomp” meets “Riverdance” with an added kick of its own. These are not your typical fiddlers! Mixed with plenty of ensemble numbers are also soloists, trios, and dueling fiddlers. The choreographed show includes whirling dancing set to infectious rhythms that will energize you from start to finish.
