Grandma's stolen car used in theft
A 34-year-old Crestview woman was arrested last week on multiple charges after she stole her grandmother’s Nissan Sentra and used it to steal a cart full of goods from Wal-Mart.
Trudy Pittman reported her granddaughter woke her up from an afternoon nap and noticed her car was missing. Pittman said the defendant “frequently takes her vehicle without her permission,” according to the arrest report.
As Pittman was making her report to a Crestview police officer, Sarah Johanna Mount of East Williams Avenue was captured on the store’s security video loading the trunk of Pittman’s car with almost $190 worth of party supplies.
According to her arrest report, Mount’s haul included 72 cans of Bud Light beer, 2 packs of Sam’s Cola, a pack of Coca Cola, 40 bags of chips, 2 bags of ice and a DVD/VHS player. She also stole two five-drawer plastic carts.
Mount was pursued by a police car, running two stop signs in her attempt to elude the officer, according to the report. To the surprise of the officer taking Pittman’s report, Mount drove up at her victim’s residence.
Mount then grabbed the pursuing officer after refusing to lie on the ground as ordered. As the officer attempted to assist her to the ground, Mount kicked the policeman several times in the stomach, forcing him to deploy his Taser pain compliance weapon.
“Ms. Mount was then placed under arrest,” the report stated.
Mount was charged with grand theft auto, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer with violence. It was also discovered that Mount drove the stolen vehicle while her license was suspended.
Mount faces an Oct. 7 court date.
