Fleeing ATV operator nabbed

The driver of an ATV illegally being operated on public roads was apprehended after leading Okaloosa Sheriff’s deputies on an on- and off-road chase last week.

Christopher Andrew Oglesby, 23, of Batten Road in Crestview was driving a yellow ATV west on U.S. Highway 90 in Crestview when he was spotted by a deputy.

According to his arrest report, Oglesby led the deputy onto Helms Farm Road before driving the ATV into a retention pond and back onto and across Hwy. 90, where he was almost struck by traffic.

The report stated Oglesby almost rolled the ATV over when he turned onto Mayo Trail. When he turned onto Kit Drive and headed back toward Hwy. 90, deputies called off the pursuit to avoid potential injury to Ogelsby or innocent motorists.

Later the same evening, a different deputy spied Ogelsby standing near the yellow ATV on Hwy. 90. Though Ogelsby ran off on foot, he was captured and arrested shortly thereafter.

Ogelsby was transported to the Okaloosa County jail on  felony and misdemeanor charges of resisting an officer without violence, reckless driving, fleeing/ attempting to elude a police officer, and driving while his license was knowingly revoked. He faces an Oct. 7 court appearance.
