CRESTVIEW — Blood tests led to the arrest of a man for DUI about seven months after he was found slumped over the wheel of his car.

Deputies found the man at a gas pump in Crestview who had been slumped over the wheel of his car for more than an hour, according to his Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. His car was running and was in park.

The man told deputies he passed out because he had only gotten 30 minutes of sleep the night before due to his mother’s death.

Deputies couldn’t smell any alcohol on the man’s breath, but he performed poorly on a field sobriety test. He was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and agreed to have his blood drawn, according to the report.

In early March, the blood test came back positive for the presence of marijuana and Hydrocodone.

The 38-year-old man was taken into custody on Aug. 3.
