FORT WALTON BEACH — Okaloosa County first responders gathered around the Fort Walton Beach Police Station at daybreak Friday to honor fallen officers at the 12th Annual Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony.

During the half-hour event, law enforcement officers, firefighters and members of the U.S. military stood at attention as they surrounded family members of the fallen.

The event is held each year to honor and pay tribute to local law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty.

Those honored were as follows:

From the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office: Deputy Sheriff Anthony Forgione, Deputy Sheriff Warren York, Deputy Sheriff Burton Lopez and Deputy Sheriff William Myers.

From the Escambia County Sheriff's Office: Sgt. Roosevelt Walker Jr. and Lieut. George Hura Jr.

The Fort Walton Beach Police Department, Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Crestview Police Department, Niceville Police Department, Valparaiso Police Department, Shalimar Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol and the Fort Walton Beach Fire Department all participated in the event.

There from the U.S. military were the U.S. Air Force law enforcement from the 96th Security Forces Squadron, the 1st Special Operations Security Forces Squadron, AFOSI 9th Field Investigative Division and the U.S. Army 7th Special Forces Group.
