CRESTVIEW — A 28-year-old woman who was taken to jail after deputies found drugs in her car told lawmen she didn’t have any more drugs on her, but a strip search at the jail proved otherwise.
The woman was a passenger in a car that was pulled over for speeding on U.S. Highway 90, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. During the stop, a deputy’s K9 detected narcotics in the vehicle and the woman and driver were ordered out of the car and detained.
During a search of the car, deputies found a glass smoking device, a digital scale and a round pill in a backpack behind the driver’s seat. A glass smoking device was also found on the ground next to the woman.
After being read her rights, the woman admitted to dropping the device in an attempt to hide it from law enforcement.
A deputy told her she was going to be taken to jail, but first warned her that if any contraband was found on her once she was inside the jail she would face additional charges. The woman said she had nothing else on her and was taken to jail.
During a strip search at the jail, however, police found a Clonzepam pill in her bra.
She said she forgot the pill was there.
The woman was charged with drug equipment possession, tampering with evidence and smuggling contraband into a detention facility.
