BAKER — A Baker man has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for allegedly taking a hatchet to his roommate during an argument Thursday night.
Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a home on State Road 4 around 10 p.m.
They discovered that 54-year old Samuel Ray Brunson Jr. had gotten into an argument with his roommate of three weeks, 29-year old Jake Bell, over allegations that Bell was using narcotics in Brunson’s home, according to Brunson's arrest report.
Brunson said Bell had been homeless and he had given him food, clothing, and a safe place to stay. However he said he could no longer live with Bell due to him showing disregard for him and his home. Bell pushed Brunson three different times and laughed at him, according to the arrest report.
Brunson then left the room and armed himself with a hatchet, demanding Bell leave the home. When Bell refused, Brunson hit him with it in the upper left arm, knocking him onto the couch. Bell then ran to a nearby shop and asked a clerk to call 9-1-1.
He was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center for treatment. His wound required five staples to close it, the report said.
