CRESTVIEW — A 39-year-old Crestview man has been arrested after police received a tip that he'd stolen a lawnmower from Lowe's and then pawned it.

Nicholas Paul Schneider of Crestview was already in the Okaloosa County Jail on burglary charges from another case when he was identified as a suspect. He will also be charged with grand theft, according to a press release from the DeFuniak Springs Department.

The mower will be returned to the home improvement store, the release said.

It had been sitting in front of the store, when Schneider allegedly cut the cable, loaded it onto a trailer and drove it out of the parking lot on Jan. 22.

“It’s our citizens who make the difference,” said Chief Mark Weeks. “This case may have gone unsolved if it wasn’t for a citizen with information on the suspect.

"Thank you for help bringing this case to a close.”
