HOLT — A 48-year-old man was charged with multiple felonies after he beat and raped a woman two days after Christmas, lawmen say.

According to an arrest report from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Shawn Michael Hale, who listed his job as a painter and gave a Holt address, repeatedly struck a female victim in her head and face during the early morning hours of Dec. 27. The woman suffered visible dark bruising under her eye, jaw, cheek and earlobe.

After beating her, Hale dragged the woman by her hair to the bedroom, causing abrasions on both her knees. She asked for her cell phone with the intent to call law enforcement, to which Hale responded, “You’re not getting it.”

He then forced the victim onto the bed and restrained her hands with a belt and ankles with a phone charge wire before telling her “I’m going to rape you.” He forced her on her stomach and raped her.

The victim remained in bed afterwards out of fear and left the following morning when she believed it was safe to leave.

Hale has been charged with battery, sexual battery, kidnapping and obstructing justice. He is being held in the Okaloosa County Jail.
