CRESTVIEW — An 18-year-old man was arrested for retail theft after entering a store, taking items out of their packages and attempting to leave the store without paying for them.

According to a Crestview Police Department arrest report, on Nov. 24 the man walked into the store empty-handed and went to the shoe aisle, where he took off the shoes he was wearing and put on a pair of boat shoes that cost $25.99. He then took a pair of earrings valued at $4.99 and placed them in his pocket. Next, he selected a $6.99 cell phone screen protector, took it out of the package, put the trash in a pair of blue jeans on a rack and put the screen protector in his pocket.

Finally, the man took a $5.99 cell phone case out of its packaging and placed it in his pocket.

The man attempted to leave the store without paying for any of the items, but was stopped by a loss prevention officer and escorted to the back of the store. Surveillance video confirmed the man had attempted to steal all the items.

He was arrested and charged with retail theft by a person convicted of two prior thefts.
