FORT WALTON BEACH — A man was taken to jail after drunkenly crawling across a busy road during rush hour traffic.
According to an arrest report from the Fort Walton Beach Police Department, on Nov. 29 at around 6 p.m. an officer was driving eastbound on Hollywood Boulevard when he observed the 66-year-old man crawling across the street.
Traffic conditions were heavy and all cars were stopped as the man crossed the street on his hands and knees, according to the report. Panicked motorists believed he had been struck by a car, and people at nearby businesses called 911 reporting a possible vehicle and pedestrian accident.
The officer, as well as several concerned citizens, rushed to the man’s aid, only to discover he hadn’t been hit by a car. He was, in fact, “highly intoxicated” and had simply “decided to crawl across the roadway.”
The man was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant. While searching him after his arrest, the officer found a “suspected baggie of cannabis” in the man’s right front pants pocket.
The man was charged with marijuana possession and disorderly intoxication, both misdemeanors.
