CRESTVIEW — A man was arrested for felony domestic violence after setting a pile of pine straw on fire next to his girlfriend’s car and threatening to burn her house down.
According to the Crestview Police Department’s arrest report, on Nov. 2 the man locked his keys in the car and became angry at his girlfriend (who is also the mother of his child) after she could not help him get them out. The man threatened to burn her car and house down, then set a pile of dried pine straw on fire and placed it next to the back tire of her car.
The woman told deputies she was in fear for her life, the lives of her two children and the life of an elderly resident who lived in the home. She recorded the incident on her cellphone and showed it to the authorities.
While being interviewed, the man told deputies he started the fire “in order to get (his girlfriend) to come outside and help him,” but once she was outside he changed his mind and became “frustrated at the situation.” The man’s story changed continuously.
Based on the girlfriend’s cellphone video, and the presence of burned yard debris next to her car, the man was arrested and charged with felony domestic violence and taken to the Okaloosa County Jail.
