CRESTVIEW — A 20-year-old man was arrested after beating a woman, preventing her from calling 911 and preventing her from leaving her home.
According to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office report, on Oct. 27 a woman was asleep and when she woke up at around 8 a.m. she saw the man, with whom she was familiar, standing in her room. An argument ensued and the man began to push and hit her.
The woman wanted to call someone, but the man took her cellphone and wouldn’t let her use her house phone. He also stood in front of the door when she tried to leave.
At around noon, the woman said she was tired of the argument and took a nap. An hour later she woke up, the man was still in her home and he began striking her again. The woman was finally able to call 911 but the man forced her to hang up before she could speak to a dispatcher.
When deputies arrived on scene to verify the 911 call, the suspect took off on foot. After being caught, he told deputies he “did not want to get in trouble.”
He did get in trouble. The man was arrested and charged with battery, a misdemeanor, and obstructing justice, a third degree felony.
