CRESTVIEW  — The Crestview Police Department has a suspect in custody in connection with Wednesday afternoon's shooting at Quinta Villa Apartments.

According to Police Department spokesman Brian Hughes, witness statements led police to the man who was at the apartment complex. Witnesses thought he was in Apartment 7, but after obtaining a search warrant a police SWAT team entered the unit and found no one inside.

The suspect was arrested later at the complex, Hughes said. He was not immediately identified and the specific charges were not available.

The man was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. His condition was not known Wednesday night.

Northwood Elementary School and Richburg School were locked down for a time as as police investigated the incident. Maples Street, Lloyd Street and First Avenue also were closed off after the Police Department's SWAT team arrived at the scene, Hughes said.
