CRESTVIEW — A 35-year-old man who works security at a local nightclub was charged with felony battery, felony child cruelty, resisting an officer and obstructing justice.

Marcus Darrin Mitchell was already on probation for felony aggravated battery on a pregnant victim, according to his Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

The victims, a woman in her 30s and a preschool-age child, told deputies he was waiting outside for them and as they walked into the home, he grabbed the child and began beating her.

The woman attempted to intervene, but was slammed to the ground, punched in the face and slapped in the face, according to his OCSO arrest report.

She tried to call 911, but he came after her and took the phone from her, according to the arrest report.

The woman then ran to a neighbor’s house, knocked on the door and cried for help, but no one answered. She went to a second house where they opened the door, but Mitchell came and dragged her back to the house, the report said.

When deputies arrived, he refused to come out of the house and had to be Tased into custody.

The child suffered a facial bruise and a fractured hand. The woman had what was believed to be a broken nose, as well as bruises on her arms, face and back.

The residents of the first house she went to for help told deputies that they'd heard her but were too afraid to open the door because they were afraid of Mitchell. They did call 911.
