MARY ESTHER — Almost 250 families and individuals who are struggling financially went to the Santa Rosa Mall last Saturday to pick up free groceries compliments of Farm Share and S4P Synergy, Inc.

Farm Share is a large food bank that specializes in donating fresh fruits and vegetables from Florida’s farmers to low-income families. S4P Synergy is the nonprofit community service wing of Striving for Perfection Ministries.

Anthony Sawyer, executive director of S4P Synergy, said many families arrived at the mall's parking lot long before the event was scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

“We still have a great need for affordable, fresh produce and vegetables in our area,” Sawyer said.

The grocery distribution was sponsored by volunteers from Royal Generation Development, Striving for Perfection Ministries, Mercy Seat Ministries, Omega Psi Phi and other volunteers. A total of 19,000 pounds of food was given away in two hours, including, bananas, broccoli, peppers and salad mix.

“It’s always a blessing to have a great partner such as Farm Share to provide a needed resource.”, said Yvette Torry, program coordinator of S4P Synergy.
