An Alabama couple injured in a car accident Monday evening has learned the wife's therapy dog was found dead in a ditch off Antioch Road in Crestview.

CRESTVIEW — An Alabama couple injured in a car accident Monday evening has found closure over their missing dog, though not the kind they were hoping for.

Teresa and William Herbst were getting off of Interstate 10 in Crestview when their car was T-boned.

Teresa was seriously injured and remains hospitalized. Her therapy dog, a Shar-Pei mix named Shar, was terrified and ran away.

On Wednesday, they asked for the public's help in finding their dog.

Sadly, news reached them that she had been found dead in a ditch off Antioch Road.

"At least they know she's not out there suffering," said Dianna Hall, who is caring for Teresa at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
