CRESTVIEW — A man was seriously injured Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of North Ferdon Boulevard and Beech Street.
The accident happened just after 7 p.m., according to a press release from the Crestview Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found 35-year-old Antonio McLaughlin lying in the roadway with serious leg and head injuries.
Witnesses said McLaughlin was standing in the middle of a northbound turn lane of Ferdon Boulevard that is designated for vehicles attempting to turn left. He was waiting for other vehicles when 26-year-old Kirkland Long of Crestview entered into the turn lane to make a left turn.
Long told officers that he was unable to see McLaughlin in the dark and didn’t expect anyone to be standing in the middle of the road.
McLaughlin was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center with leg and head injuries and was listed in stable condition at the time of this release. He was not in a marked crosswalk, although there was one about 150 feet away.
No charges are pending, the release said.
