Suspect said a friend told him to check for squatters and take anything he wanted.
CRESTVIEW – A 30-year-old Crestview man faces burglary and larceny charges after taking items from a home that was under construction.
The victim reported that items including golf clubs, a grinding wheel, a leaf blower, an air compressor, a pressure washer and a ratchet wrench set had disappeared from his home.
He found some of the items for sale on Facebook and discovered they were being sold by the suspect’s acquaintance from high school, according to his Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
The victim also encountered the suspect at his home.
A witness told deputies he’d seen the victim at the suspect’s house and that he was shooting bottle rockets and acting suspiciously.
The suspect told deputies that a friend had told him the victim’s property was in foreclosure and all items were going to be removed. He said the friend told him to check for squatters and take anything he wanted.
He could not give the deputies his friend’s name.
The only items returned were the golf clubs, which just appeared back at the house, the report said.
