A Crestview man is in critical condition at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center following a motorcycle crash Monday night in Okaloosa County.

James Robert Caine Jr., 56, was operating a 2003 custom-built motorcycle west on Airport Road at a high speed when he failed to negotiate a curve at 6:10 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The motorcycle, listed as an ASPT (assembled from parts) model, left the roadway and traveled onto the north shoulder where it began to overturn. The release noted that the motorcycle continued to overturn and actually traversed both lanes of travel on Buckhorn Drive before coming to a final rest on top of Caine in a ditch.

Caine was not wearing a helmet and alcohol was not related to the crash. FHP issued charges for special hazard-failure to use due care and operating a motorcycle without a motorcycle license.
