The collision occurred Monday night on Garrett Mill Road, just west of Old Brown Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that an Okaloosa County teenager is in critical condition after the bike he was riding was hit by a pickup Monday night.

According to a FHP news release, 18-year-old Arron Grantham of Baker was struck by a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup driven by another Baker resident, 27-year-old Donovan Smith, at 9:10 p.m. on Garrett Mill Road.

In the FHP report, Smith told authorities he did not see the bicycle, which was traveling in the same direction east on the roadway just west of Old Brown Road, because it did not have lights.

Smith attempted to swerve and avoid a collision, the release stated, but the right front of the pickup struck the rear of the bike.

It was noted that Grantham, who was not wearing a helmet, was propelled from the bike after being hit by the pickup.

Following the collision, the Silverado left the roadway and collided with a dirt embankment, which caused it to overturn on its roof.

Grantham was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola and remained listed in critical condition Tuesday. Smith, who was wearing a seatbelt, escaped injury in the rollover.

The release noted that alcohol was not related to the accident and that charges are pending.
