CRESTVIEW — Southside Primary School's Parent Teacher Organization recently held a water-themed summer bash for the end of the school year.
It couldn’t have been done "if it wasn't for Principal Debbie Haan, Carol Ditmore, Tarra Howard, Barbara Davidson and a slew of support from engaged teachers, staff, guardians, and local and non-local businesses," PTO President Melissa Rincon said. "We raised over $1,500 for our teachers' classrooms to assist with their (2017-2018 student) needs … We had close to 200 students attend the event."
That's just one benefit to help the PTO meet its objectives. In other PTO news:
•There are two fundraisers: Papa John's Pizza (use Code Crestview1 and 20 percent goes to the school) and Chill Yogurt, where customers must say, "Southside Primary" during check-out for Southside to receive a percentage of the proceeds.
•Grant paperwork for $30,000 from the Okaloosa School District has been filed.
•The PTO is continuing to seek additional funding through several businesses in Florida to achieve its goals for the Title I school.
PTO officers include President Melissa Rincon; Fundraising Ambassador Tina Steen; Vice President Kristy Salter; Secretary Shannon Agerton; Parliamentarian Cindy Bourland; Treasurer Jessica Rose; Communications Coordinator Courtney Strom; and Assistant Treasurer Rheanna Dorton.
