CRESTVIEW — A 20-year-old Crestview man was arrested after the car he was riding in was pulled over for a seatbelt violation.

The defendant refused to give his name to Crestview Police Department officers during the traffic stop. He was charged with resisting arrest.

During the traffic stop, officers searched for narcotics but didn’t find any.

They did find a handgun within easy reach of the 19-year-old driver who said he needed it there for self defense.

The driver was charged with carrying a concealed firearm.
