CRESTVIEW — A Crestview man is hospitalized in critical condition following a one-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
FHP reported that Matthew Watkins, 46, had just pulled out from Laurelwood Drive and was traveling east on County Road 188 (Airport Road) at a high rate of speed in a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup at the time of the 4:10 p.m. crash.
Failing to negotiate a curve, the pickup went into a slide onto the west shoulder of the roadway, struck a guard rail and began to overturn into a ditch.
Watkins was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the pickup. He was transported to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola where he was listed in critical condition Sunday morning.
The release noted that Watkins was cited for driving too fast for conditions and not wearing a seatbelt.
