The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island is hosting its first Pelican Plunge on Okaloosa Island on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017. Participants will take an invigorating dip into the Gulf of Mexico in support of the Emerald Coast Foundation.
The Crab Trap will be open at 10 a.m. and will offer drink specials for those who may need some liquid courage before the plunge. Pre-registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the common area below The Crab Trap and the official splash into the Gulf of Mexico will take place at 11:30 a.m. A post-plunge party will also take place at The Crab Trap and include hot cocoa, coffee and 99¢ gumbo.
Participants will be freezin’ for a reason, with the $20 participation fee benefiting the Emerald Coast Foundation, a charitable organization committed to investing the in the youth of Northwest Florida. The foundation works with children's charities such as ARC of the Emerald Coast, All Sports Association, Children in Crisis, and the Eleanor Johnson Youth Center to fund their causes. Plungers are encouraged to pre-register online at www.theboardwalkoi.com where the first 100 registrants will receive an exclusive Pelican Plunge long-sleeved shirt.
After the dip, plungers (and spectators) can continue to celebrate New Year's Day with $3 Bloody Mary’s, $2 Mimosas, and holiday specials at participating Boardwalk restaurants: Rockin Tacos, The Crab Trap, and Floyd’s Shrimp House.
